Countdown To Cast Off

To cast off is to throw the line (rope) which attaches a boat to a pier or mooring freeing the boat from her restraints.  Is it time to start a countdown to cast off?

Is it time to countdown to cast off?

Over the past few months, we have worked diligently completing our “to do list” as well as our “wish list” and upgrades to our boat, Out of Sight.

Many tasks were daunting to say the least. But ever so slowly, day by day each task has been completed. The lists are now empty.  Could it be time to start our countdown to cast off? Is it finally time to get this adventure started?  The answer is yes.

Changes and Preparations

Our goal is for Out of Sight to cast off in early December once hurricane season is in the rear view mirror and sail east.  As I write this I’m having a hard time comprehending Craig, Bonny, and I are only 8 weeks from our lives changing in so many ways.  But, it is time to get going.

The countdown to cast off will still be busy.  Craig and I will be spending time with our kids and grandkids to absorb as much love as possible. It will be a long while before we can give or get hugs this Mom/Grandma cherishes.  Thank goodness for FaceTime.

Countdown will be full of preparations on Out of Sight.   We will be making provisions list, check and recheck the rigging, lines, and sails.  All the emergency systems as well as personal emergency equipment will be double checked. Craig and I, along with buddy boat SV Nymeria will be watching weather patterns and weather windows to choose the best route and time for our Gulf crossing.

With the clock ticking, cast off is now in sight and within reach. The countdown to start this next chapter has officially begun.
